 Coaching Tips

Here are some offensive concepts we emphasize on a daily basis:

1. JUMP STOP! After every drive into the paint we want our guys to jump stop and face the basket if they can't immediately score.  Once they jump stop and there is no shot available we want them to shot fake and pass fake to get the defense off balance and create a shot for others or themselves.

2. A GOOD SHOT IS ONLY AS GOOD AS A GOOD PASS!  We want our guys to pass the ball to a shooter in his shooting pocket.  A good pass significantly increases the percentage of a shot going in.  In order to do this, the shooter must be ready to shoot by calling for the ball and showing his hands so the passer knows where to pass it.  The passer must snap his pass on a line and get it to the shooter exactly where he wants it.  We never want our guys to shoot it after a bad pass.

3. FOLLOW THROUGH!  We make our guys follow through on every shot they take in practice whether its live or in a drill.

 4. NEVER MAKE A 1 HANDED PASS!  If you attempt a 1 handed pass and at the last second the play doesn't develop you have no chance to bring the ball back.  With a 2 handed pass attempt you can still pass fake and bring the ball back.

Happy Holidays!
