411Hoops is courtside in Chicago for the Reebok Breakout Underclass Camp. Here is coverage of the first evening of camp:
RBK Breakout Camp in Chicago.
The camp started promptly at 6:30 pm. It was fast paced and high energy from the start. There are approximately 100 players here from all around the country. The evening started out with 8 stations, doing 5 on 5 drills, agility drills, post moves and layup drills. All the drills were high intensity with not wasted time in between. After about 3.5 hours of skill work, it was evident that our young players are not use to really working on their games at game speed and with serious intention. Many players were cramping up and needed the attention of the Trainer.
Watching the guys go through drills reinforced the fact that many talented players don’t work on the skills as much as they play. I am sure that many players will leave the camp with a better understanding of what it takes to get to the next level.
The RBK Breakout Camp mission, according to their website www.Ballercircuit.com, is to give lesser known players the opportunity to prove that they have to get to the next level.
I am looking forward to the next 2 days.
Saturday at RBK Breakout Camp in Chicago
Day 2 started out with more high intensity drills where the focus was on ball movement, passing and playing. The message at the camp is very clear. If you want to be a big dawg then you better prepare to have a big bite. I think the major benefit to this camp is that it establishes the gold standard for being an elite player. Many players have come to Chicago with mini or medium range reps. as the www.ballercircuit.com site says. It’s not about rep anymore; it’s about doing it on the floor against competition.
Well there are many big and mid size players in the camp, there aren’t too many who are real explosive. Some of the guards go to the basket stronger.
