The Constellation of Stars

Jacob RubinKwame Firempong

By now everyone is very familiar with the top players at Windward, Darrius Morris (Michigan signee), Anthony Stover (UCLA signee), Malcolm Washington (U of Penn signee) and Wesley Saunders (Super Soph), but I want to tell you about 2 other Windward players who have played important roles in Windward success over the past two seasons. Juniors Jacob Rubin and Kwame Firempong have contributed mightily to the Wildcats title run. They do a lot of the dirty work. As Steve Smith, Windward A.D and head girls basketball coach said in speaking of Jacob’s defense, “he is a pest”, and he just doesn’t let up. Kwame, who is actually 5’11”, was given the nickname “6-8 Kwame’, by Mr. Morris, Darrius’s dad, for his penchant to get in the seams and come down with rebounds against taller players.

Every team in America, pro, college, or high school, has to have players like Jacob and Kwame in order to perform at the optimum. They need players that hustle, hit open shots and do whatever the coach asks of them. In this case, both players’ connections with their teammates are genuine.

Next time you are at a game and you’re watching the stars, take a little time to watch to the constellation surrounding them and I am sure you’ll see players like Jacob Rubin and Kwame Firempong.
