Fairfax Tournament Report
Day 2

Westchester 84 Dorsey 59

This was a very interesting game to watch. First of all Jordin Mayes from Westchester continues to grow as a player. As a freshmen he was more of a shooter, during his Sophomore year he became more of a scorer, therefore increasing his value to his team and coaches looking at him for the next level. What I like about Jordin is that he doesn't take too many bad shots or have too many turnovers.  He takes the shots that he is suppose to take. Needs to continue working on his handle because at the next level he will more than likely be point guard at the high major D1 level. He is working on his defense and is getting better.

Dom O'conner continues to amaze me. He has speed, can score and if he would just become a better distributor of the ball he would be a prize. I've watched him for 2 years now and the one thing, if I am scouting him, that I would ask is. As point guard does he make the players around him better? There are times he does and he really like to pass in traffic and make the tough passes. The simple passes the pure points make seem to bore him a little. I am routing for him to figure it out, because if he does, he could be a strong Mid-Major player at the next level.

Other players who shined in this game were Kareem Jamar, Westchester 2010, he just needs to become more aggressive offensively and also continue to work on his defense, especially at the guard level. Kareem, is a solid passer, has great knowledge of the game and can rebound, Kendrick Thomas, Westchester, a transfer from Fairfax, 2009, gets his hands on a lot of offensive rebounds and subsequently gets tip ins and disrupts the other teams ability to get the ball off the boards and start their break. Kendrick could turn into a solid player when he learns a few more facets of the game, I was also impressed with Mario Norad, 2010 of westchester. He comes off the bench, but gave some solid minutes and is reasonably athletic. If he really gets in the gym and starts working on his game he could be a City section surprise this year and garner some national attention.

I was impress with Dorsey transfer Brian stewart, 2009 who is quick, gets in the lane and causes havoc once he gets there. I remember Brian when he was in the 7th grade and he actually played in my program for 3 months. The one thing that was evident then and still, is he is quick as a modified road runner and athletic. His basketball IQ has improved. I didn't see him shoot the ball, but he can score. He got pass the westchester defenders at will. On the other end he also got passed, so he needs to work a little harder on his D. Overall, Brian should have a solid year for Dorsey and spark some scholarship offers. His teammate Anthony Dees, Dorsey, 2010 impressed me last summer while at the Reebok Breakout camp. He is a solid scorer, knows how to play and can get to the basket and handle the rock.  He hit several long range shots, pull up jumpers and straight to the rack shots. This should be a breakout year for him.

High Scorers

Jordin Mayes 28 for comets, Dom O'connor 13

15 points each for Brian Stewart, Lee Lark, Anthony Dees

Fairfax 66 vs La Canada 62

I saw some of the first half of this game and what I did see was a boring as Renaldo Sidney looked. When I left at half, Fairfax was up 1. La Canada was definitely playing harder than the FAX.

High scorers.

Four players in double figures for Fairfax.
lance bailey 20.

Jeff Grigg had 20 points and soph.-to-be Mike Mcglashan had 19 for Spartans.
La Canada made 16 three-pointers.
