Five-star Thompson headed to the Big East

The decision was made early, but not easily.

Hollis Thompson is headed to Georgetown.
"There were a lot of positives in the colleges I was looking at," Thompson said. "Both basketball-wise and education-wise, Georgetown gave me everything I was looking for and I have a chance to win a national title there. It was a difficult decision and each school had a lot to offer, but I feel good about my decision to attend Georgetown."

Thompson said he chose the Hoyas over Duke, UCLA, North Carolina, Arizona, Texas and Stanford and that the coach at Georgetown played a big role in his decision.

"One thing I really like about coach John Thompson III is he doesn't recruit positions, he recruits players," he said. "I like their offense with the motions and cutting, and lenience and flexibility. I am not going there to play one definite po sition, I'll have a chance to play the 'one' through the 'four.'"

Thompson, the No. 24 ranked prospect in the 2009 class, is the versatile, well rounded forward with a game well suited to the Georgetown style of play.

Hollis Thompson scouting report:

A rangy athlete, Thompson is a promising wing prospect. He has a diverse skill package and good feel for the game. Very effective without the ball in his hands, Thompson does have room for improvement in his ball handling and physical strength.
