Hax Top 25 High School League

 October 26, 2008

Jerome Green

I was able to watch a couple of games on This past Sunday at the HAX top 25 High School League.  This league is very good.  The top players in Southern California are showing up and playing with a lot of passion and heart.  In most fall leagues you see guys kind of going through the paces and half playing. Not in the Hax league. Some players are playing like they are in league play in mid-February.

Top Games

Windward 58-vs Serra 49

Game started out slow and ugly with neither team really being able to establish any rhythm or timing. Finally the game heated up with Anthony Stover from Windward blocking shots and Malcolm Washington and Wesley Saunders making penetrating moves to the basket. Autry from Serra played better than I’ve seen him play in a long time and Serra’s  big guy held his own against Stover.

Westchester 57 vs. San Diego 48

Jeremy Tyler continues to show why he is a dominating force at the High School level and has loads of potential to grow on. He finished with 30 points, but he didn’t have much help and Westchester team game over came Tyler’s individual effort. Dom O’Conner, who I have been a critic of in the past, played his best overall game as a point guard that I have seen. He managed the flow of the game, made plays for other players on his team and looked like a D1 prospect.  His speed on the floor can kill you if he chooses to use it correctly. Other players who stepped up where Reggie Murphy, who recovered from 3 fouls in the first half and managed to hold his own against Tyler in the second half. Dwayne Poolee contributed some key baskets and had about 10 boards. Jordan Mayes his some key buckets down the stretch.  Kareem Jamar and Deshaun McCoy took care of the details and added to the victory.
