Ocean View 2008 TOC Update from Tuesday December 9th

GAME 8 RECAP - PENINSULA vs LONG BEACH POLY

Day 2 of the Ocean View TOC started in a similar fashion as Day 1(first game of day going to OT) as the Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits defeated the Peninsula Panthers in overtime 63-61. The Jackrabbits controlled much of the game, but the Panthers behind the hot shooting of Sophomore Guard Reese Morgan pushed Poly to the brink in the 4th quarter forcing overtime. Despite the late heroics of Morgan, who scored 25, the Jackrabbits managed to maintain control of the overtime period. Still, Peninsula had a 3 point shot to win the game with under 5 seconds remaining, but Morgan's deep 3 fell short. Long Beach Poly was led by Alex Carmon who dumped in 15 points and Michael Mayes contributed 13 points.

GAME 13 RECAP - SERRA vs LAKEWOOD

The Serra Cavaliers beat the Lakewood Lancers, 48-45 in a losers bracket game at Lakewood High School. Serra led 35-28 going into the 3rd quarter but the Lancers fought back and closed the gap but did not have enough at the end to overtake the Cavaliers. Ronnie Stevens led Serra, scoring 14 points while Jared Garber paced Lakewood with 10 points.

GAME 9 RECAP - ST MARY'S vs LEUZINGER

The Leuzinger Olympians used a 30 point 2nd quarter to help them cruise to a 83-61 victory over the St. Mary's Knights. The Knights kept things failry tight early, but the Olympians proved to be too athletic and and too good for St. Mary's to handle on this night. Leuzinger got significant contributions from guards William Overton and Jerry Evans. Overton led all scorers with 21 points and Evans chimed in with 20. St. Mary's Blake Davis pumped in 17 for the Knights.

GAME 14 RECAP - RANCHO VERDE vs GARCES

The Rancho Verde Mustangs advanced to the quarterfinals of the Ocean View TOC with a 67-57 win over the Garces Rams. The Mustangs took advantage of a very slow start by the Rams, building a 24-5 lead after the 1st quarter. Garces hung in after their sluggish beginning, cutting the Rancho Verde lead to 8 after 3 quarters. The Mustangs put their foot back on the gas pedal in the 4th, not allowing Garces to complete the comeback. The Mustangs were led by Florida State bound Michael Snaer, who dropped 31 on the Rams. Garces got another solid performance from Stephon Carter, who led the Rams with 20 points.

GAME 10 RECAP - BIRMINGHAM vs CLOVIS WEST

In game 10 of the OV TOC, the Clovis West Eagles used a suffocating defense to stifle the Birmingham Patriots from tip to finish, winning comfortably, 64-42. When they had the ball in their hands, the Eagels took advantage of their superior size, punching the ball into Cal-Davis bound DeAndre' Medlock, who dominated inside, scoring 20 points. Birmingham was led by Eric Dawson's 12 points.

GAME 15 RECAP - COSTA MESA vs HARVARD WESTLAKE

The Harvard Westlake Wolverines rebounded from a tough loss Monday night to post a convincing win over the Costa Mesa Mustangs 81-26. The Wolverines jumped all over the Mustangs early and put the game away before Costa Mesa knew what hit them. Harvard Westlake was led by Eric Swoope's 21 points. Brian Lefebrve led the Costa Mesa, scoring 8.

GAME 11 RECAP - NOTRE DAME vs ETIWANDA

The high powered Etiwanda Eagles showed the fans at the OV TOC why they are so highly regarded as they easily dismantled the Notre Dame Knights, 68-27. Credit the Knights for battling and scrapping the entire game, but Etiwanda's talent just proved to be too much. Etiwanda's leading scorer was Willie Mebane with 11 and Notre Dame's Jhordan Ford led the way for the Knights with 10.

GAME 16 RECAP - PACIFIC HILLS vs KILLARNEY

The Pacific Hills Bruins moved their way into the quarterfinals of the TOC with a dominating performance, beating the Killarney Cougars 79-35. Pacific Hills gave the crew from Canada a rude awakening, jumping all over the Cougars from the start, leading 21-9 after one. From then on it was clear sailing for the Bruins who were led by Alex Osbourne's 15 points. Killarney's Matt Chow led all scorers for the Cougars with 14 points.

GAME 12 RECAP - WESTCHESTER vs LB JORDAN

In the final game of Day 2 at the TOC, the Westchester Comets withstood 20 minutes of stellar play by the Long Beach Jordan Panthers, advancing to the quartefinals going away, 69-49. Long Beach Jordan and Westchester see-sawed back and forth for a majority of the 1st half, with Westchester taking a 29-26 lead at intermission. The Panthers opened up the 2nd half scoring the first 6 points, but after that is was all Comets. Westchester went on a 32-7 to basically end any hope Long Beach Jordan had of pulling the upset.
