End of Summer Showcase Report

The 5th annual Southern California End of Summer Showcase took place Saturday August 16th at Cal State University Dominguez Hills. A total of 25 teams competed in the one day event. Below is a listing of the players who stood out.
Top Prospects
Ryan Anderson 6’6” 2011 Long Beach Poly HS (Independent # 3)- Good young prospect. Very comfortable facing the basket. Can rebound and shoot it.
Chris Bearden 6’2” 2009 Sonora HS (West Coast Academy)- Tough left handed wing that competes and can hit an open three.
Brandon Bivins 5’9” 2009 Bishop Montgomery HS (Independent # 6)- This lead guard played great on Saturday. He was able to penetrate and get in the paint at will, and when he had an open three he nailed it. Additionally, he plays with great energy and can really get a team going.
Rakim Brown 6’6” 2010 Central HS (South Valley Fever 17’s)- Nice long athletic slasher that attacks the rim. He has a good looking stroke too.
*Stephon Carter 6’4” 2009 Garces HS (South Valley Fever 17’s)- Strong athletic wing that gets to the rim whenever he wants. He is really hard to guard off of a live ball. Additionally, he can really pass it too & He’s a very good rebounder. His stock will really rise if he continues to shoot it better.
Daymond Cowlah 5’10” 2010 Montclair Prep HS (Hoopmasters Team Ariza)- Really quick left handed point guard that is very good in transition. Also, a capable shooter and defender.
Dominique Dunning 6’3” 2011 Corona Centennial HS (Independent # 4)- Big guard that is good in transition. Can handle it and has good vision.
*Jerry Evans 6’6” 2009 Leuzinger HS (L.A. Stars)- An extremely long and athletic wing that can score the ball.
*Leon Gibson 6’7” 2009 Serra HS (MBS)- Skilled big with nice hands and a soft touch. Can really get out and run the floor. Finishes around the rim and can step out and shoot it a little too.Sleeper.
*Dashawn Gomez 6’1” 2009 Inglewood HS (Inglewood F. Hoops)- Combo guard with a really nice handle. Can get in the lane at anytime. A very good scorer that can hit an open three.
Isaiah Gossett 6’1” 2009 Edison HS (Kern County All Stars)- Athletic combo guard that can really finish at the rim.
*Joe Hudson 6’1” 2010 Escondido HS (High Intensity 16’s)- Easily one of the most impressive players on Saturday. He is hands down the best pure shooter in all of California. His range begins as soon as he walks into the gym!! Additionally, He has a great feel for the game and can handle the ball as well. As he gains strength he will become an even better player. A sure fire Division 1 player.
*Anthony January Jr. 6’4” 2012 Dominguez HS (Hero)- Long athletic wing that can get in the paint with ease. Capable of getting to the rim and finishing. Has a chance to be a real nice player in the future.
*Todd Lewis 6’1” 2011 Etiwanda HS (Independent # 5)- Athletic wing that moves well without the ball. A good rebounder that can hit an open shot.
Patrick McCollum 6’3” 2008 San Diego HS (San Diego Magic)- Lead guard that has a nice handle. Can pass and shoot it too. Likely headed to Oregon State where he will sit out this coming year and play the following.
*Reggie Murphy 6’8” 2010 Westchester HS (Inglewood F. Hoops)- Big strong post that can really finish with authority at the rim. He is a strong rebounder and he has a decent looking stroke as well.
*Norvelle Pelle 6’9” 2011 Dominguez HS (West Coast Academy)- The longest player in the event. Appears to be more of a wing than a traditional post. Is comfortable facing the basket and is capable of making some very impressive plays. As he gets stronger he is going to be difficult to deal with! A probable high major prospect.
*Kurt Smith 6’5” 2010 Dominguez HS (West Coast Academy)- Really strong and athletic wing that attacks the rim with a vengeance. Can rebound and handle as well.
Richard Solomon 6’8” 2010 Bishop Montgomery HS (Independent # 6)- Long athletic wing that can score inside and blocks a lot of shots. Has a nice upside.
*Jeremy Tyler 6’9” 2010 San DiegoHS (San Diego Magic)- Can really do anything he wants out on the floor. A future pro.
*Byron Wesley 6’4” 2011 Cajon HS (Independent # 1)- Athletic wing that gets to the rim. He is very active and grabs a lot of rebounds. Finally, he has a nice looking stroke and is a probable high major prospect.
Julian Wheeler 6’2” 2009 Leuzinger HS (L.A. Stars)- Combo guard that has a very fluid game. Effective in transition, can get in the paint and hit the open three.
Others to Consider
Sam Beeler 6’8” 2012 Poway HS (High Intensity 16’s)- Postman with good hands that can run. Capable finisher around the rim. As he gets stronger he is going to develop into a real nice player.
Charles Benton 6’5” 2009 Newbury Park HS (Independent #2)- Combo forward who can score & is a capable rebounder.
Stephen Bonner 5’11” 2009 Poway HS (High Intensity 17’s)- Quick point guard that can handle pressure. He has a nice mid-range game and is a good on the ball defender.
Cody Brice 6’8” 2010 Hanford HS (West South Valley Fever 16’s)- Good young big that will get even better as he continues to get in shape. Can catch and finish around the rim.
Jordan Burris 6’5” 2011 Stockdale HS (South Valley Fever 16’s)- Long athletic slasher that can get to the rim.
Ryan Bush 6’1” Garces HS (South Valley Fever 17’s)- Athletic point guard who pushes the break effectively.
Alex Carmon 6’1” 2011 Long Beach Poly HS (Independent #3)- Solid combo guard who is a nice all around scorer.
C.J. Carter 6’4” 2010 Fairfax HS (Hoopmasters Team Ariza)- Long wing that can handle and has good vision. Capable of posting up shorter players. As he gets stronger his game will continue to improve.
Antoine Roy-Condron 6’7” 2010 St. Anthony’s HS (Independent # 6)- Big man that plays with effort. A good rebounder that can score around the rim.
Kevin Conrad 6’3” 2009 Buena Park HS (Independent # 1)- Tough athletic wing that drives the ball hard to the rim. He is active and makes a lot of plays.
Marvin Cunningham 6’4” 2010 Venice HS (BPA)- A long athletic slasher that can handle and pass.
Breaun Day 5’8” 2009 Quartz Hill HS (Skywalkers)- Combo guard that can really defend the ball.
Johnny Dee 5’9” 2011 Rancho Buena Vista HS (Gamepoint)- Excellent shooter with range. He has a nice feel for the game.
Chris Dixon 6’4” 2010 Garces HS (South Valley Fever 16’s)- Wing player that gets in the paint.
Joe Fiddemont 6’4” 2010 View Park Prep (BPA)- Strong athletic wing that can really finish at the rim.
Chris Frankling 6’3” 2010 Gardena HS (Independent # 1)- Long wing that can slash and get to the rim.
Colroy Gordon 6’3” 2010 Leuzinger HS (L.A. Stars)- Wing that can shoot it from the perimeter and slash to the rim.
Solomon Haina 6’6” 2009 Crossroads HP (Hoopmasters Team Ariza)- Left handed athlete that finishes strong at the rim.
Dijon Henry 6’2” 2009 Bakersfield HS (South Valley Fever 17’s)- Strong wing that drives it hard to the basket
Stephon Hicks 6’4” 2010 Agoura HS (SFV Jaguars)- Good combo guard that can really see the floor.
Karl Hoffman 6’8” 2009 Loyola HS (Hoopmasters Team Ariza)- Big man with good hands and a nice touch. Capable of stepping out to fifteen and shooting it. If he continues to get in better shape his game is going to be even better. Works hard.
Jonathan Hurst 6’4” 2009 Calvary Chapel HS (Independent # 5)- Three man that runs the floor well. Is a great shooter out to fifteen feet and can make an open three too.
Mosis Khan 6’2” 2009 West Torrance HS (West Coast Academy)- Very good stand still shooter!
Zack Kimber 6’1” 2009 Huntington Beach HS (Independent # 4)- Left handed shooter with good range.
Austin Loeb 6’8” 2010 Huntington Beach HS (Independent # 1)- Big that plays hard. Can catch and finish around the basket.
Ashley McCullough 6’3” 2008 Community Harvest HS (BPA)- An active athlete that makes plays all over the floor. Also, is a capable shooter and rebounder.
Brandon Moore 5’7” 2011 Mayfair HS (Independent # 2)- Quick point guard that is a capable shooter and facilitator.
Shelby Parson 6’6” 2008 Living Faith Academy (San Diego Magic)- Long and athletic slasher.
Kendrick Powell 5’6” 2010 Gardena HS (Independent # 1)- Extremely quick point guard that gets in the paint and has good vision.
Jiovanni Ramano 5’9” 2012 Westchester HS (Inglewood F. Hoops)- Really quick point guard that is a very effective penetrator.
Brandon Rogers 6’1” 2012 Roosevelt HS (Hero)- A nice shooter that can handle as well.
Domonique Stancil 6’2” 2010 East HS (Kern County All Stars)- Strong bodied wing that gets to the rim.
LeMar Staples 6’5” 2010 Temescal Canyon HS (Skillz Sports)- An excellent rebounder that has a real nose for the ball.
Ronnie Stevens Jr. 6’8” 2011 Serra HS (Independent # 3)- Big that can get out and run the floor. Capable finisher around the basket, good shot blocker. Prospect to keep an eye on in the years to come.
Brandon Tuggle 6’5” 2009 Leuzinger HS (L.A. Stars)- Long active athlete that can really rebound the ball and make a lot of plays.
Ryan Watkins 6’6” 2009 Reseda HS- Aggressive player that can rebound and finish around the rim.
Ifeanyi Ume 6’5” 2009 Cams HS (West Coast Spartans)- Strong post that rebounds and is a capable finisher.
Javeon Watson 6’2” 2012 San Ysidro HS ( Hardwork)- Tall point guard with a nice handle. He is a capable penetrator and distributor.
Travon Wesson 6’1 2009 Ridgeview HS (Kern County All Stars)- Wing that can shoot the ball and is a good passer too.
J.R. Williams 5’7” 2012 Taft HS (Independent #3)- Competitive point guard who can run a team & make plays in transition.
*Michael Williams 6’1” 2009 Taft HS (Independent # 3)- Solid point guard that can make a shot. He has a good handle and can pass.
