Buckley Caught up in a Twister against Windward
2/27/2009
Windward came out in the first quarter against Buckley like a level five twister, with the cows, house and cars all swirling around the crossroad gym in their semi-final game. By the time the funnel passed over Buckley the score was 21-2 and windward never looked back.
This was a game of redemption for Windward, after losing an OT semi-final game last year to Garces in their own gym.
Tonight Anthony Stover with 25 points and 19 blocks led the way. He was backed up by Darius Morris, who played limited minutes while resting his ankle, with 14 and Malcolm Washington’s 12 points.
To their credit, the Buckley players never gave up and kept fighting the whole way. Their game plan of trying to get Stover into foul trouble didn’t work for them, but it allowed Stover to become a human fly swatter.
Forhadi and Norris who both ended up with 12 points led Buckley.
Coach Miguel Villeages when asked how this victory built on the growth of the Windward program said: “We showed tonight that we are a consistent team and well take this win and go on to the finals”
Windward plays La Verne Lutheran either on next Thursday or Friday.
